FLOW SEASON 2023 BEGINS ON 5 JULY!
THE BEST OF THE LAST TWO YEARS AND YET SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT!
As in 2021 and 2022, swimming at FLOW will be back in the only open-air pool in all of Brussels from 5 July until early September. Visit www.flow.brussels for all information! Reservations for a swim will be possible from 4 July, booking a swimming course or a group swim for organisations is already available!
A lot will remain as known. FLOW will be open 7 days a week. In the afternoon, anyone can come and swim, organised into 45-minute time slots for the swimming area while the sun terraces and kiosk will be open to everyone all day. It is best to book a time slot in advance as demand will far exceed FLOW's capacity on days with nice weather like in the past. Reservations can be made free of charge at FLOW, or again for a small reservation fee online via the booking page, 24 hours in advance.
Mornings from Tuesday to Friday are reserved for organisations that can book group swimming for free via a separate booking page. On weekends, there are morning swim lessons, registration is possible via this link, and a time slot reserved for women on Saturdays.
In 2022, we organised morning swimming for the first time. This was a great success. Therefore, this summer it will be possible to come and swim on Tuesdays AND Thursdays from 8.30am to 10am. This will again be combined with yoga and qi-gong classes. On Wednesday evening, everyone is invited to aqua-fitness classes! Flow offers more than just a dip in fresh water
Needless to say, equally important as sports and refreshment in FLOW are the various events and cultural activities: concerts and pool parties, children's stories and debate moments for all, dance and artistic performances. And FLOW will have at least two visits along the canal this summer! For the opening weekend, we are looking forward to "Etat des Lieux #1", curated by Nadine! And in early August, we welcome the Urban Boat for "Sound River System"! For details, visit the event page on the FLOW website.
Not to be missed is also FLOW's kiosk! This was new in 2022 and an instant success. Many people stayed at FLOW all afternoon enjoying the weather thanks to our refreshment booth. So of course it will not be missing in 2023 either!
FLOW WOULDN’T BE FLOW WITHOUT THE PEOPLE BEHIND IT
FLOW remains a complex project that is only possible thanks to a large team of enthusiastic staff during the summer and previous months, supported by many hard-working hands of volunteers during the preparations. This summer, more than 30 different people are again working at FLOW with a variety of tasks, from the lifeguards to coordination and communication. For the daily management, we again count on the FLOWers, young people from Anderlecht and the surrounding area who, often for the first time, can gain very broad work experience at FLOW.
But not everything will stay the same! In 2023, FLOW will look, feel and function differently!
WHAT’S NEW IN 2023?
The biggest change is the new biological water treatment. The water at FLOW is no longer treated chemically with chlorine, but with biological filters where plants and microorganisms guarantee good water quality! With this, FLOW continues to fulfil its role as a prototype for Brussels: these ecological principles for water treatment are being applied in Brussels for the first time! This is possible thanks to a new Brussels Government decision on the operation of swimming pools, in force since March 2023.
After numerous similar swimming pools with biological water treatment throughout the world, including in Flanders (Zwemvijver Boekenberg in Antwerp) or Wallonia (Piscine Belvédère in Dour), we believe it is time for Brussels too to take a step towards sustainable water treatment. To this end, FLOW offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience for future projects such as the swimming zone in the Park of Neerpede!
Thus, from now on, you swim in water without chemicals! For this important adaptation, we are assisted by two experienced partners, Polyplan Kreikenbaum and Ecoworks. You can read more about them, the principle of natural water treatment and what this means for FLOW and you as a swimmer in this article.
WHAT ELSE?
Not only water is needed to make swimming possible in FLOW. Nothing would be feasible without electricity. On the one hand, electricity is of course needed for the water treatment pumps. But just as important is the whole reservation system, the fridges at the kiosk, or simply the lighting. For this too, we were looking for more sustainable solutions. Installing solar panels on FLOW would mean too big an investment and is also not possible in terms of surface area. That is why we are happy that thanks to a partnership with Bolt FLOW is supplied with 100% green electricity! This regional electricity is generated in Wallonia by the Fabribeckers Family hydroelectric plant.
FLOW plant filters are a biological habitat and ecologically balanced. This balance is sensitive to chemical influences such as sunscreen. But sun protection is important! Fortunately enough, ecologically acceptable sunscreens exist, these with mineral UV filters. Thanks to a collaboration with Sundo, we can offer everyone free eco-friendly sunscreen at FLOW! You will automatically come across the automatic dispenser during your visit!
Another step towards a more sustainable future is the new dry toilet system, created after consultation with L'Eau de Vie. We will gladly explain the modifications in detail on site ;)
Last but not least, there is also a new ticket: the FLOW SUPPORTER ticket that you can book during your online reservation. FLOW gave up during last winter. Much of the money raised from the 2022 crowdfunding campaign went towards repairs in addition to the plant filters. Unfortunately, government subsidies, without which FLOW would not be able to exist, are also a lot lower than expected this year. Therefore, this year we are again offering the possibility - to those who are able to - to financially support us while booking tickets for FLOW. This either through donations like last year, or newly also through the new FLOW SUPPORTER Ticket of which everyone can set the price themselves. We would like to express our sincere thanks to our supporters!
What hopefully won't change though is the fun you can have in FLOW in various ways, first and foremost to swim in it. We look forward to welcoming many of you again this year, in 2023. See you soon!

LE MEILLEUR DES DEUX DERNIÈRES ANNÉES COMBINÉ À QUELQUE CHOSE DE COMPLÈTEMENT DIFFÉRENT !
Comme en 2021 et 2022, la baignade à FLOW sera de retour dans la seule piscine en plein air de tout Bruxelles à partir du 5 juillet et jusqu'à début septembre. Visitez www.flow.brussels pour l'ensemble des informations. Les réservations pour une baignade seront possibles à partir du 4 juillet, la réservation d'un cours de natation ou d'une baignade en groupe pour les organisations est d'ores et déjà disponible !
Pas mal de choses sont déjà connues: FLOW sera ouvert 7 jours sur 7. L'après-midi, tout le monde pourra venir se baigner, par tranches horaires de 45 minutes pour la zone de baignade, tandis que les terrasses ensoleillées et le kiosque seront ouverts à tous toute au long de la journée. Il est préférable de réserver un créneau horaire à l'avance, car la demande dépassera largement la capacité de FLOW les jours de beau temps comme par le passé. Les réservations peuvent être effectuées gratuitement au FLOW ou, moyennant des frais de réservation minimes, en ligne via la page de réservation, 24 heures à l’avance.
Les matinées du mardi au vendredi sont dédiées aux organisations qui peuvent réserver gratuitement la baignade en groupe via une page de réservation séparée. Le week-end, il y a des cours de natation le matin, l'inscription est possible via ce lien, et un créneau horaire est réservé aux femmes le samedi.
En 2022, nous avions organisé pour la première fois une baignade pour les nageurs matinaux! Ce fut un grand succès. Cet été, il sera donc possible de venir nager les mardis ET les jeudis de 8h30 à 10h. Cette activité sera à nouveau combinée avec des cours de yoga et de qi-gong. Le mercredi soir, tout le monde est invité à des cours d'aquagym ! Mais tout aussi importants que le sport et se rafraîchir à FLOW, il y a les divers événements et activités culturelles : concerts et fêtes au bord de la piscine, contes pour enfants et moments de débat pour tous, danse et performances artistiques. FLOW aura également au moins deux visites le long du canal cet été ! Pour le week-end d'ouverture, nous attendons avec impatience "Etat des Lieux #1", organisé par Nadine ! Ne manquez pas non plus le kiosque de FLOW ! Il s'agit d'une nouveauté en 2022 qui a connu un succès immédiat. De nombreuses personnes sont restées au FLOW tout l'après-midi pour profiter du temps grâce au nouveau kiosque. Il sera bien présent en 2023 !
fLOW NE SERAIT PAS FLOW SANS LES PERSONNES QUI La SOUTIENNENT
FLOW était et reste un projet complexe qui n'est possible que grâce à une grande équipe d'employés enthousiastes pendant l'été et les mois précédents, soutenus par de nombreux bénévoles qui travaillent dur pendant les préparatifs. Cet été, plus de 30 personnes différentes travaillent à nouveau pour FLOW et assument des tâches variées, des sauveteurs à la coordination et à la communication. Pour la gestion quotidienne, nous comptons à nouveau sur les FLOWers, des jeunes d'Anderlecht et des environs qui, souvent pour la première fois, peuvent acquérir une expérience professionnelle très large au sein de FLOW.
Mais tout ne restera pas inchangé ! En 2023, l’aspect, la sensation et le fonctionnement de FLOW seront différents !
QUOI DE NEUF EN 2023 ?
Le plus grand changement est le nouveau traitement biologique de l'eau. L'eau de FLOW n'est plus traitée chimiquement avec du chlore, mais avec des filtres biologiques où des plantes et des micro-organismes garantissent la qualité de l'eau ! FLOW continue ainsi à jouer son rôle de prototype pour Bruxelles : ces principes écologiques de traitement de l'eau sont appliqués à Bruxelles pour la première fois ! Ceci est possible grâce à un nouvel arrêté du gouvernement bruxellois relatif à l'exploitation des piscines, en vigueur depuis mars 2023.
Après de nombreuses piscines similaires avec traitement biologique de l'eau à travers le monde, y compris en Flandre (Zwemvijver Boekenberg à Anvers) ou en Wallonie (Piscine Belvédère à Dour), nous pensons qu'il est temps pour Bruxelles de faire un pas vers un traitement durable de l'eau. À cette fin, FLOW vous offre la possibilité d'acquérir une expérience pratique pour des projets futurs tels que la zone de baignade dans le parc Neerpede !
Désormais, vous nagez dans une eau sans produits chimiques ! Pour cette adaptation importante, nous sommes aidés par deux partenaires expérimentés, Polyplan Kreikenbaum et Ecoworks. Vous pouvez en savoir plus sur eux, sur le principe du traitement naturel de l'eau et sur ce que cela signifie pour FLOW et pour vous en tant que nageur dans cet article.

Mais il n'y a pas que l'eau qui soit nécessaire pour nager dans FLOW. Rien ne serait possible sans électricité. D'une part, l'électricité est bien sûr nécessaire pour les pompes de traitement de l'eau. Mais l'ensemble du système de réservation, les réfrigérateurs du kiosque ou simplement l'éclairage sont tout aussi importants. Là encore, nous étions à la recherche de solutions plus durables. L'installation de panneaux solaires sur FLOW représentait un investissement trop important et n'est pas non plus possible en termes de surface. C'est pourquoi nous sommes heureux que, grâce à un partenariat avec Bolt, FLOW soit approvisionné en électricité 100% verte ! Cette électricité régionale est produite en Wallonie par la centrale hydroélectrique de la famille Fabribeckers.
Les filtres végétaux FLOW constituent un habitat biologique et un équilibre écologique. Cet équilibre est sensible aux influences chimiques telles que la crème solaire. Mais la protection solaire est importante ! Heureusement, il existe des crèmes solaires écologiques qui contiennent des filtres UV minéraux. Grâce à une collaboration avec Sundo, nous pouvons offrir à chacun une crème solaire écologique gratuite à FLOW ! Vous rencontrerez automatiquement le distributeur automatique lors de votre visite !
Un autre pas vers un avenir plus durable est le nouveau système de toilettes sèches, créé après consultation avec L'Eau de Vie. Nous nous ferons un plaisir de vous expliquer les modifications en détail sur place ;)
Enfin, il existe également un nouveau billet : le billet FLOW SUPPORTER que vous pouvez réserver en ligne. FLOW a eu un hiver particulièrement rude. Une grande partie de l'argent récolté lors de la campagne de crowdfunding 2022 a servi à financer des réparations, en plus des filtres de l'usine. De plus, les subventions publiques, sans lesquelles FLOW ne serait pas possible, sont également beaucoup moins importantes que prévues cette année. C'est pourquoi, cette année encore, nous offrons à ceux qui sont en mesure de nous soutenir financièrement la possibilité de le faire en réservant des billets pour FLOW. Par le biais de dons, comme l'année dernière, et grâce au nouveau billet FLOW SUPPORTER, dont chacun peut fixer le prix lui-même. Nous vous en remercions sincèrement !

Zoals in 2021 en 2022 wordt er van 5 juli tot begin september weer gezwommen in FLOW, het enige openluchtzwembad in heel Brussel. Ga naar www.flow.brussels voor alle informatie! Reserveren voor zwemmen is mogelijk vanaf 4 juli, het boeken van een zwemcursus of groepszwemmen voor organisaties is nu al beschikbaar!
Heel veel blijft zoals gekend. FLOW zal 7 dagen de week open zijn. In de namiddag kan iedereen komen zwemmen, georganiseerd in tijdsloten van 45 minuten voor de zwemzone terwijl de zonneterrassen en de kiosk voor iedereen de hele dag toegankelijk zijn. Het is best om een tijdslot op voorhand te reserveren gezien de vraag op dagen met mooi weer zoals in het verleden veel groter zal zijn dan de capaciteit van FLOW. Reservaties zijn gratis mogelijk aan FLOW, of tegen een kleine reservatiebijdrage online via de boekingpagina, 24 uur van tevoren.
De voormiddagen van dinsdag tot vrijdag zijn voorbehouden aan organisaties die via een aparte boekingspagina zwemmen in groepsverband gratis kunnen reserveren. In het weekend zijn er zwemlessen in de voormiddag, inschrijven is via deze link mogelijk, en op zaterdag een tijdslot gereserveerd voor vrouwen.
In 2022 organiseerden we voor het eerst ochtendzwemmen. Dit was een groot succes! Daarom zal het deze zomer mogelijk zijn om op dinsdag EN donderdag van 8u30 tot 10u te komen zwemmen. Deze momenten worden gecombineerd met yoga en qi-gong lessen. Woensdagavond is iedereen uitgenodigd tot aqua-fitness cursussen! De kiosk van FLOW is terug van nooit weggeweest! Na haar succesvolle introductie in 2022 zal deze ook in 2023 weer de honger en dorst van menig zonneklopper lessen.
FLOW is en blijft een complex project dat enkel mogelijk is dankzij een groot team van enthousiaste medewerkers en vele vrijwilligers zowel tijdens de zomermaanden als gedurende de voorbereidingen. Deze zomer werken in FLOW opnieuw meer dan 30 verschillende mensen met uiteenlopende taken: van de redders en redsters tot de coördinatie en communicatie. Voor het dagelijkse beheer kunnen jullie opnieuw rekenen op de FLOWers, Brusselse jongeren uit Anderlecht en omgeving die, vaak voor de eerste keer, zeer uiteenlopende werkervaringen aan FLOW kunnen opdoen.
Maar niet alles blijft hetzelfde! In 2023 zal FLOW er anders uitzien, anders aanvoelen en ook anders functioneren!
WAT IS NIEUW IN 2023?
De grootste verandering is de nieuwe biologische waterbehandeling. Het water van FLOW wordt niet langer chemisch met chloor gezuiverd, maar met biologische filters waar planten en micro-organismen de waterkwaliteit garanderen! Hiermee blijft FLOW zijn rol als prototype voor Brussel vervullen: deze ecologische principes voor de waterbehandeling worden voor de eerste keer toegepast in Brussel! Dit is mogelijk dankzij een nieuw besluit van de Brusselse Regering over de uitbating van zwembaden, van kracht sinds maart 2023.
Na talloze vergelijkbare zwembaden met biologische waterzuivering in de hele wereld, waaronder ook in Vlaanderen (Zwemvijver Boekenberg in Antwerpen) of Wallonie (Piscine Belvédère in Dour) wordt het volgens ons tijd dat ook Brussel een stap richting duurzame waterbehandeling maakt. FLOW biedt hiervoor de kans om hands-on ervaring op te doen voor toekomstige projecten zoals de zwemzone in het Park van Neerpede!
Voortaan zwemt u dus in water zonder chemicalien! Voor deze belangrijke aanpassing laten wij ons bijstaan door twee ervaren partners, Polyplan Kreikenbaum en Ecoworks. EN VERDER?
Maar niet enkel water is nodig om in FLOW te zwemmen. Niets zou mogelijk zijn zonder elektriciteit. Langs de ene kant is elektriciteit natuurlijk nodig voor de pompen van de waterbehandeling. Maar even belangrijk is het hele reservatiesysteem, de frigo’s van de kiosk, of gewoon de verlichting. Ook hiervoor waren wij op zoek naar duurzamere oplossingen. Zonnepanelen installeren op FLOW zou een te grote investering betekenen en is ook qua oppervlakte niet mogelijk. Daarom zijn wij blij dat dankzij een partnerschap met Bolt FLOW van 100% groene elektriciteit wordt voorzien! Deze streekstroom wordt opgewekt in Wallonië door de waterkrachtcentrale van de Familie de Fabribeckers.
De plantenfilters van FLOW zijn een biologische habitat en ecologisch in evenwicht. Dit evenwicht is gevoelig aan chemische invloeden zoals zonnecrème. Maar bescherming tegen de zon blijft belangrijk! Dankzij een samenwerking met Sundo kunnen wij iedereen gratis milieuvriendelijke zonnecreme aanbieden aan FLOW! Deze beschermt jou en het evenwicht van filter dankzij het gebruik van minerale UV-filters. Je zult de automatische dispenser vanzelf tegenkomen tijdens je bezoek!
De laatste stap die we deze zomer richting een duurzamere toekomst zetten is het nieuwe systeem van droogtoiletten. Dit ontstond na overleg met L’Eau de Vie. Wat deze aanpassing speciaal voor u als bezoeker betekent leggen we u graag ter plaatse in meer detail uit.
Last but not least is er ook een nieuw ticket: het FLOW SUPPORTER ticket dat u kunt boeken tijdens de online reservatie. FLOW heeft afgezien tijdens de afgelopen winter. Een groot deel van het geld dat vorig jaar met de crowdfunding-campagne werd opgehaald ging naast de plantenfilters voornamelijk naar herstellingen. Ook de overheidssubsidies, zonder welke FLOW niet mogelijk zou zijn, zijn dit jaar een pak lager dan verwacht. Dit nieuwe ticket biedt zo diegenen die financieel in staat zijn om ons te steunen ook dit jaar weer de kans om ons te steunen. Ook de vrije donaties blijven uiteraard beschikbaar. We willen zij die ons extra ondersteunen alvast oprecht bedanken!
Wat uiteraard niet zal veranderen is het plezier dat je in FLOW op verschillende manieren kunt beleven, eerst en vooral door erin te zwemmen. We kijken ernaar uit om jullie ook dit jaar, in 2023, talrijk te ontvangen. Tot snel!
