European Prize for Urban Public Space: WE ALMOST MADE IT (BUT NOT QUITE)
In the end we didn’t win the European Prize for Urban Public Space 2022, but we are very happy about the inspiring experience, meeting so many interesting people from all over Europe in the past days in Barcelona.
The winning project „Catharijnesingel“ in Utrecht, NL, by OKRA landscape architects definitely deserves the prize. Demonstrating the important role of water in a city and the positive impact politicians can have if they dare (more about it soon), it’s even a relevant reference for Brussels.
We are extremely proud that FLOW was recognized by the jury, selecting POOL IS COOL together with Decoratelier Jozef Wouters as one of five finalists among more than 350 submitted projects. A fact that we will certainly use towards authorities in our continuous campaign for outdoor swimming in Brussels and the future of FLOW.
And Barcelona itself is an incredibly inspiring city regarding qualitative public space, not at last when it comes to urban swimming places, with beautiful beaches just a stone throw from the centre or a public pool with a panoramic view over the whole city.

European Prize for Urban Public Space: NOUS AVONS PRESQUE RÉUSSI
Finalement, nous n'avons pas gagné le Prix européen de l'espace public urbain 2022, mais nous sommes très heureux de l'expérience inspirante que nous avons vécue en rencontrant tant de personnes intéressantes de toute l'Europe ces derniers jours à Barcelone.
Le projet gagnant "Catharijnesingel" à Utrecht, NL, par les architectes paysagistes d'OKRA mérite définitivement le prix. Démontrant le rôle important de l'eau dans une ville et l'impact positif que les politiciens peuvent avoir s'ils osent (nous en reparlerons bientôt), c'est même une référence pertinente pour Bruxelles.
Nous sommes extrêmement fiers que FLOW ait été reconnu par le jury, qui a sélectionné POOL IS COOL avec Décoratelier Jozef Wouters comme l'un des cinq finalistes parmi plus de 350 projets soumis. Un fait que nous utiliserons certainement auprès des autorités dans notre campagne continue pour la baignade en plein air à Bruxelles et l'avenir de FLOW.
Et Barcelone elle-même est une ville incroyablement inspirante en matière d'espace public qualitatif, et pas des moindres lorsqu'il s'agit de lieux de baignade urbains, avec de belles plages à deux pas du centre ou une piscine publique avec une vue panoramique sur toute la ville.
Merci à Jozef du Decoratelier Brussel et à toute notre équipe, nos partenaires et nos supporters qui ont réalisé et géré FLOW avec nous. Sans vous, nous ne sommes rien.

European Prize for Urban Public Space: WE HEBBEN HET BIJNA GEHAALD (MAAR NÉT NIET HELEMAAL)
Uiteindelijk hebben we de Europese Prijs voor Urbane Publieke Ruimte 2022 niet gewonnen, maar we zijn erg blij met de inspirerende ervaring, waardoor we de afgelopen dagen in Barcelona zoveel interessante mensen uit heel Europa hebben ontmoet.
Het winnende project "Catharijnesingel" in Utrecht, NL, van OKRA landschapsarchitecten verdient zeker de prijs. Het demonstreert de belangrijke rol van water in een stad en de positieve impact die politici kunnen hebben als ze durven (waarover binnenkort meer), het is dan ook een relevante referentie voor Brussel.
We zijn bijzonder trots dat FLOW werd erkend door de jury, die POOL IS COOL samen met Decoratelier Jozef Wouters selecteerde als een van de vijf finalisten uit meer dan 350 ingediende projecten. Een feit dat we zeker zullen gebruiken richting autoriteiten in onze voortdurende campagne voor openluchtzwemmen in Brussel en de toekomst van FLOW.
En Barcelona zelf is een ongelooflijk inspirerende stad wat betreft kwalitatieve openbare ruimte, niet in de laatste plaats als het gaat om stedelijke zwemplekken, met prachtige stranden op een steenworp afstand van het centrum of een openbaar zwembad met een panoramisch uitzicht over de hele stad.
Bedankt Jozef met Decoratelier Brussel en al ons team, partners en supporters die samen met ons FLOW hebben gerealiseerd en gerund. Zonder jullie zijn we niets.
