Sometimes the big news are in the small letters! How about swimming with a view in Brussels? The “Brussels Bouwmeester” published the architecture competition for MANUFAKTURE, a new building on the site of Abattoir in Anderlecht. It’s the intention to build a swimming pool complex, open and covered, on the roof of the building which benefits from the waste heat produced in the cooling chambers! What started as ecological sustainability, with the greenhouses of BIGH on the roof of the FOODMET, can be developed further to a social sustainability, with a pool on the roof of the MANUFAKTURE. This will add a public amenity of regional attraction in a neighborhood that lacks leisure infrastructure.

Parfois, les grandes nouvelles sont dans les petites lettres ! Que diriez-vous de nager avec vue sur Bruxelles ? Le Bouwmeester Maître Architecte vient de publier le concours d'architecture pour MANUFAKTURE, un nouveau bâtiment sur le site de l'Abattoir à Anderlecht. C'est l'intention de construire un complexe de piscine, ouvert et couvert, sur le toit du bâtiment qui bénéficie de la chaleur résiduelle produite dans les chambres froides ! Ce qui a commencé comme durabilité écologique, avec les serres de BIGH sur le toit du FOODMET, peut être développé plus loin vers une durabilité sociale, avec une piscine sur le toit du MANUFAKTURE. Cela ajoutera un attrait public d'attractivité régionale dans un quartier dépourvu d'infrastructures de loisirs.

Soms staat het grote nieuws in de kleine letters! Wat dacht u van zwemmen met uitzicht in Brussel? De Brusselse Bouwmeester heeft de architectuurwedstrijd voor MANUFAKTURE gepubliceerd, een nieuw gebouw op de site van Abattoir in Anderlecht. Het is de bedoeling om een open en overdekt zwembadcomplex te bouwen op het dak van het gebouw dat profiteert van de restwarmte die vrijkomt in de koelcellen! Wat begon als ecologische duurzaamheid, met de serres van BIGH op het dak van de FOODMET, kan verder ontwikkeld worden tot een sociale duurzaamheid, met een zwembad op het dak van de MANUFAKTURE. Dit zal een openbare voorziening van regionale aantrekkingskracht toevoegen in een buurt zonder vrijetijdsinfrastructuur.

We supported the development of the project brief together with Abattoir and other stakeholders, and we are happy that the qualities of a public open air pool are understood and shared, even though it is a conditional part of the program for which the financing still needs to be found. However, the strong intention of Abattoir and also the Brussels’ Bouwmeester to realize a swimming pool was the reason to integrate it in the project call already now.
Nous avons appuyé l'élaboration de l'énoncé de projet en collaboration avec Abattoir et d'autres intervenants, et nous sommes heureux que les qualités d'une piscine publique en plein air soient comprises et partagées, même si c'est une partie conditionnelle du programme pour laquelle le financement doit encore être trouvé. Cependant, la ferme intention de Abattoir et du Bouwmeester de Bruxelles de réaliser une piscine a été la raison de l'intégrer dès maintenant dans l'appel à projet.
We hebben de ontwikkeling van de projectopdracht samen met Abattoir en andere belanghebbenden ondersteund, en we zijn blij dat de kwaliteiten van een publieke openluchtzwembad worden begrepen en gedeeld, ook al is het een voorwaardelijk onderdeel van het programma waarvoor nog een financiering moet worden gevonden. De sterke intentie van Abattoir en ook van de Brusselse Bouwmeester om een zwembad te realiseren was echter de reden om het nu al te integreren in de projectoproep.
