POOL IS COOL is not an architectural project even though architecture will play a role in the future for permanent swimming places. However, we see our work already now as an example of the changing role of architects in the future, recognizing the challenges of contemporary societies linked to proactively developing strategies to tackle these challenges.
The majority of the members of POOL IS COOL has a background in architecture or urbanism. POOL IS COOL works with dedication and pleasure on the Brussels of tomorrow. We believe that our approach, described in detail below, is worth sharing with other professionals on an international level.

POOL IS COOL n'est pas un projet architectural, même si l'architecture jouera un rôle dans l'avenir pour les piscines permanentes. Cependant, nous considérons déjà notre travail comme un modèle de l'évolution du rôle des architectes dans l'avenir, reconnaissant les défis des sociétés contemporaines liés à l'élaboration proactive de stratégies pour relever ces défis.
La majorité des membres de POOL IS COOL ont une formation en architecture ou en urbanisme. POOL IS COOL travaille avec dévouement et plaisir sur le Bruxelles de demain. Nous pensons que notre approche, décrite en détail ci-dessous, mérite d'être partagée avec d'autres professionnels au niveau international.

POOL IS COOL is geen architectuurproject, ook al zal architectuur in de toekomst wel een rol spelen voor permanente zwemplekken. We zien ons werk nu al als een model van de veranderende rol van architecten in de toekomst, waarbij we de uitdagingen van de hedendaagse samenlevingen erkennen en erop reageren door proactief strategieën te ontwikkelen om deze uitdagingen aan te pakken.
De meerderheid van de leden van POOL IS COOL heeft een achtergrond in architectuur of stedenbouw. POOL IS COOL werkt met toewijding en plezier aan het Brussel van morgen. Wij zijn van mening dat onze aanpak, die hieronder in detail wordt beschreven, het waard is om te delen met andere professionals op internationaal niveau.

The quest for the revival of outdoor swimming as an exemplary approach to tackle urban challenges
POOL IS COOL is an independent platform of international citizen experts, combining the experience of local urgencies with the professional expertise to respond to the identified problems.
To progress in our quest for public open air swimming swimming in Brussels, POOL IS COOL developed a strictly positive approach consisting of militant yet playful activities that highlight problems and professional strategies that generate and discuss solutions.
Short term ACTIONS of civil disobedience in public space raise attention while temporary PROJECTS let citizens experience the joy of swimming in the city. Ongoing RESEARCH of the social, spatial, financial and environmental context within an international network of experts are the base for collaborations with different stakeholders. Frequent public DEBATES of our ambitions with audiences ranging from activists to politicians, combined with social media, generates feedback from those we do it for: the inhabitants of Brussels, in all their diversity.
Our four-part strategy, developed for the specific case of outdoor swimming, offers also to others a toolbox for a multitude of urban urgencies, avoiding possible conflicts of different stakeholders through specifically matched approaches based on shared values and intentions.
La recherche d'un retour de la baignade en plein air comme approche exemplaire pour relever les défis urbains
POOL IS COOL est une plateforme indépendante d'experts citoyens internationaux, combinant l'expérience des urgences locales avec l'expertise professionnelle pour répondre aux problèmes identifiés.
Pour progresser dans notre quête de baignade publique en plein air à Bruxelles, POOL IS COOL a développé une approche strictement positive. Elle joint des activités militantes mais ludiques qui mettent en évidence les problèmes avec les stratégies professionnelles qui génèrent et discutent des solutions.
Des ACTIONS à court terme de désobéissance civile dans l'espace public attirent l'attention tandis que des PROJETS temporaires permettent aux citoyens de vivre l'expérience de la joie de nager dans la ville. La RECHERCHE permanente du contexte social, spatial, financier et environnemental au sein d'un réseau international d'experts est à la base de collaborations avec différents acteurs. Des fréquents DÉBATS publics sur nos ambitions avec des participants allant des militants aux politiciens, combinés aux médias sociaux, génèrent des réactions de ceux pour qui nous le faisons : les habitants de Bruxelles, en toute leur diversité.
Notre stratégie en quatre volets, développée pour le cas spécifique de la baignade en plein air, offre aussi à des tiers une boîte à outils pour une multitude d'urgences urbaines, évitant d'éventuels conflits entre les différentes parties prenantes grâce à des approches spécifiquement adaptées basées sur des valeurs et intentions communes.

POOL IS COOL is een onafhankelijk platform van internationale burgerexperts, dat de ervaring van lokale urgenties combineert met de professionele expertise om in te spelen op de geïdentificeerde problemen.
Om vooruitgang te boeken in onze zoektocht naar openluchtzwemmen in Brussel, heeft POOL IS COOL een strikt positieve aanpak ontwikkeld. Deze koppelt militante maar speelse activiteiten die problemen benadrukken en professionele strategieën die oplossingen genereren en bespreken.
Onze korte termijn ACTIES van burgerlijke ongehoorzaamheid in de openbare ruimte wekken de aandacht, terwijl tijdelijke PROJECTEN onze medeburgers het plezier van het zwemmen in de stad laten ervaren. Voortdurend ONDERZOEK naar de sociale, ruimtelijke, financiële en ecologische context binnen een internationaal netwerk van experts vormen de basis voor samenwerking met verschillende stakeholders. Frequente publieke DEBATTEN van onze ambities met deelnemers van activisten tot politici, gecombineerd met sociale media, genereert feedback van degenen voor wie we het doen: de inwoners van Brussel, in al hun diversiteit.
Onze vierdelige strategie, ontwikkeld voor het specifieke geval van buitenzwemmen, biedt ook voor anderen een instrumentarium voor een veelheid aan stedelijke urgenties, waarbij mogelijke conflicten van verschillende belanghebbenden worden vermeden door middel van specifiek op elkaar afgestemde benaderingen op basis van gedeelde waarden en intenties.
