The water samples were taken by Brussels Environment, which is currently investigating where a swimming pond is feasible. "Indoor swimming pools are important for learning how to swim, but public outdoor swimming pools also have an important social function. They are accessible to everyone, regardless of age and social or cultural background. Everyone is equal in the water. This promotes social interaction. Children can play with other children, parents meet each other, boys compete for the coolest cannonball to impress girls and the elderly can practice sports in the fresh air. "
SWIMMING PONDS
That is the reason why it is important for POOL IS COOL that the government (co-) manages the swimming infrastructure. "Only in this way can we guarantee that access prices remain affordable to everyone.". The only existing outdoor swimming pools in Brussels are owned by exclusive sports clubs. They are out of the reach of the common inhabitant. Oceade, the water theme park on the Heysel, is accessible, but closes the doors at the end of this month after an extremely successful summer. The idea of building a new outdoor swimming pool has been around for some time but has not yet become concrete. Among other things, the financing, both for realization and operation, is a challenge. "It is less obvious today to make large public investments, but there are many possible ways. We can collaborate with commercial actors who provide horeca functions or events. Neighborhood collectives with volunteers can also play a role, something we see in other cities. In the case of biological swimming ponds, the maintenance costs are also much lower than in a classic swimming infrastructure and swimming in existing ponds or the channel requires only minimal infrastructure."
POOL IS COOL sees, for example, potential in Neerpede for a swimming pond. "There are several swimming ponds in London, and Paris is also working on it," says Paul Steinbrück. "There are even examples in our own country, in Antwerp and in Dour. "
Even swimming in the canal should be possible again. "The canal can be more than the inaccessible highway for ships that it is today. In many places, the water quality is already good enough for swimming. In Copenhagen you can swim in the harbor and in Leuven they are thinking about a swimming pool in the Vaartkom. Brussels can not be left behind. "

"Le bonnet de bain est suspendu au coin d'une étagère avec des instruments de mesure de la qualité de l'eau et des bouteilles en verre avec des échantillons d'eau provenant de différents ruisseaux, étangs et canaux bruxellois. »
Les échantillons d'eau ont été prélevés par Bruxelles Environnement, qui étudie actuellement la possibilité d'installer un étang de baignade. Cependant, les avantages de la natation en plein air vont beaucoup plus loin, dit POOL IS COOL. "Les piscines intérieures sont importantes pour apprendre à nager, mais les piscines extérieures publiques ont également une fonction sociale importante. Elles sont accessibles à tous, indépendamment de leur âge et de leur contexte social ou culturel. Tout le monde est égal dans l'eau. Les enfants peuvent jouer avec d'autres enfants, les parents se rencontrent, Les garçons cherchent la meilleure bombe pour impressionner les filles et les personnes âgées peuvent pratiquer des sports en plein air.
ÉTANGS DE BAIGNADE
C'est pourquoi il est important pour POOL IS COOL que le gouvernement (co-) gère l'infrastructure de natation. Ils sont hors de portée de l'habitant commun. Oceade, le parc aquatique sur le Heysel, est accessible, mais ferme ses portes à la fin du mois après un été extrêmement réussi. L'idée de construire une nouvelle piscine extérieure existe depuis un certain temps mais n'est pas encore concrétisée.
